Chameleon's Habitat
Chameleon's lives all over the world mostly in rain forest's, desert's, low land's, mountain's, inhabit trees, grass or in small bushes. Chameleon's are usually solitary maintaining a territory. They are tolerating member of opposite sex during mating season. They spend their time in scrambling around trees and bushes. There are more then 200 chameleon species. All species are in various size.
Colour Changing Ability
Chameleon have ability to change their colour because of dispersing and concentrating granules in their cells that allow them to change their colour. Chameleon's mostly change their colour according to their emotion's. They don't change colour to reflect anger. They also change their colour to mate or to fight with opposing male. They also change their colour to communicate with each other. Some change their colour to adjust their body in temperature and light. They also change light colour's to attract for mating.
Chameleon's Powerful Tongue
Chameleon's have nature's fastest and strongest tongue, capable of reaching a target twice their body length away in an instant. They are very expert's in planning surprise attack's. According to researcher's chameleon tongue have a bone and 10-15 layer's of elastic muscle tissue's. Their tongue is 2.5 time longer then their body. They speed of their tongue shoot is 8500 feet per second.
Chameleon's Panoramic Vision
Chameleon's have special eye's which help them to see all around. They move each other independently. They focus in two direction at a time. Their eye's are on back of their head. Their dimensions help them to see threat without moving. Each has a cone shape eye-lid fused to the eye ball from a tiny hole in centre of pupil. The special function of eye is monocular vision, which mean's they perform function independently to other.
Chameleon's Toes And Tail's
Chameleon's have powerful toes and tail that help them to make strong grip on branch's. Chameleon's have prehensile tail that also work as a hand in grasping. Their tail is longer then their body which make strong grip on branch's. According to some researcher's chameleon's have cell's in their toe's that help's them to change their colour according to surrounding.
Specie's Of Chameleon
According to many research's 200 species of chameleon are discovered now a days. From which 76 are only founded in island of Madagascar. They mostly eat plant's and insect's but some prey on small bird's. These solitary animals live in various habitats like rain forest's, desert and savannas. They come in various size's from thumbnail to house cat size. The largest specie of chameleon is Parson's Chameleon.
