Owl's: The Silent Guardian's
Owls are birds from the order strigiformes. They have 200 species. They have large broad head, binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons and feathers adapted for silent flight. Owls are also known for swiveling their heads and stay hidden. Owls are nocturnal, which means they are active at night. They see well in dark. They prey on other nocturnal like mice, voles and rodents.
Habitat Of Owl
Owl's habitat depends on their species. Some species like to live in forests, some in mountains, some in plain areas and some in desert. Owls are also founded in snowy areas called snowy owl's. Owl's can also make nests in different varieties. They make nests in trees, holes in ground, and in caves. Some live in nests of other birds.
Owl's Cultural Significance
In some culture owl's are considered as a symbol of wealth, prosperity, good luck, wisdom and fortune. Therefore owl's are also considered as bad luck and death symbol. They are considered as evil spirits. Their calls are predicted as bad weather. They are also seem as the messenger between life and afterlife. Their make array of different sounds like , whistles, shrieks, hisses, coos and wavering cries.
Owl's Sense Of Sight
According to many new researches, it is estimated that owl's night vision is 90-100 times better then humans. Their eyes are not balls but elongated tube. They can easily see small animals in night. The also see great in day. Owl's have 3D or binocular vision which allows them to gauge distance to perfectly time their attack. Some peoples thought that owls are blind in light, that;s not right. Some owl species can see much better in light then humans. Owl's can also turn their head 360 degree which other bird's cannot. Owl's can fly very slightly so their prey can't threatened.
Owl's Sense Of Hearing
All species of owl's possess extremely much sensitive hearing. They can easily heard very keen sound of their prey. They can hear sound far away. Owl's can hear 200-12000 Hz of sound. Some species have ability to go on exact location of sound source. Their feather's helped them to take silent flight. The hearing of hoots of owl at night has many symbolic meanings but the original symbol is guidance, good luck. They can't lose their sense of hearing with age. Owl's in snowy area can have more abilities then other owl's. They can hear sound of prey walking under snow.
Owl's Swallow Whole Prey
Owl's are great hunters. Owl's have very sharp talons that help them to grasp their prey easily and strongly. Then owl's crushes it to death. After this, if prey is not so bigger then they swallow it at a time and barf up the non-digestible parts. If prey is big then they rips them and then eat. Sometime's if owl's can't find prey or any other food they eat small owl's. Large horned owl's are very dangerous for small owl's. Owl's feed their stronger baby first and then feed their other babies.
Owl's Terrifying Noise
Owl's have very terrifying and frightened voices. All species of owl;s have their own voices. Some have screeming, hooting, hisses and many more.
Master's Of Camouflage
Owl's uses tufts to camouflage or hide themselves. When tufts are raised they use leaves and branches to cover themselves from predators. Owl's have very unique colours that matches with trees. They mostly live in dead trees. Finding an owl in these trees are not so easy.
